We know that one of the things that makes you stressed about getting family photos captured is figuring out what the heck everyone is going to wear! Have no fear. I've got some helpful tips below...

What To Wear Guide

1. Steer Clear From Neon-Like Colors

We know neon-colors are "in" right now (and we love them!), but they are not best for photos. They are harsh on the camera and bounce off on everyone around them to have a neon glow. While your kiddo may like looking like an alien from the neon green color bouncing off from his t-shirt, I recommend staying away from them. 😉

2. Coordinate, don't match.

Coordinating color is what really brings wardrobe together. I suggest choosing two or three main colors of wardrobe and maybe one accent pop of color. Also, mixing stripes with plaids and solids is okay! We want to see your personality through your wardrobe. Start with one outfit you really love, then build the rest around it.

3. Layer!

Layers add dimension and depth. For example -- sweaters, cardigans, scarves, statement necklaces, hats, blazers, jackets etc.

4. Look at your home decor.

Since you will be hanging these photos in your house, you want to consider the colors of your clothes go with the color scheme in your home.

5. Say No to characters.

Yes, your little one may love their Elsa or Spiderman shirt but you may want to skip it for the family photo session.

6. Select Clothes That fit.

We know kids grow so fast! Dress your kiddo in clothes that fit perfectly, not with room to grow. A sweater shirt, sweater or jacket doesn't compliment shape and tends to look sloppy on children.

7. Consider your background

If we’ve decided on an outdoors-y location, you’ll want to probably stay away from a TON of green in your wardrobe choices. You don’t have to avoid greens all together, but a solid green shirt probably would make you blend in with the grass and trees😉

8. plan ahead

We don't want any stress ahead of your session! Let's make sure to connect and figure out what to wear ahead of time. I will help you - don't worry! I always highly recommend that my families text me outfits they have and we will work together to put the right pieces together.

9. When in doubt, ask me!

Seriously, Text me. Most of my clients lay out their outfits or send me screenshots of the outfits they chose with Style & Select and I can give any feedback. We can also go through outfits during our Pre-Session Planning meeting and I can literally help you go through your closet and select all the outfits so there's no stressing ahead of your session date!
